They have the same specifications inside and out, with the exception of the rails. The B40 has a thicker tip rail, which "compacts" and "centers" the sound (because more rubber is available to absorb the vibration of the reed's tip). The B44 is therefore brighter and more brilliant sounding. Both are excellent for orchestral playing, and are probably the most played Eb clarinet
